Time has always played a vital role in African culture. There is a time to reap, to harvest, to celebrate and to transition into womanhood. Long before the invention of clocks there existed the age old system of sundials. The shadows cast by a stick would be used to identify the time of day and this could be used to manage tasks of the day. It was also a survival technique in monitoring animal movements.
The sundial ring is symbolic of these historic clocks which originated in Egypt.
